IT Extended Certificate Level 3 at The Belvedere Academy 6th Form

Course description

In choosing to study for a Level 3 Technical in IT you will apply your practical skills and knowledge in preparation for further study, Higher Education or the workplace.
This course offers you specialist pathways in IT Infrastructure Technician, Emerging Digital Technology Practitioner, Application Developer and Data Analyst.  
Designed in collaboration with experts spanning the breadth of the sector, the Technicals in IT focuses on the skills, knowledge and understanding that today's universities and employers demand.
The opportunities for students who take this qualification are impressive.

Links with Industry include IBM, Barclays, BT and CISCO Systems as well as Universities including Birmingham City, Anglia Ruskin, Bath and Arden.


Course content

Some of the units you will study include 'Project Management', 'Cyber Security' and of course 'Fundamentals in IT.

Entry requirements

Five GCSE grades A*-C including English and Maths.

A GCSE in ICT or Computing will support you in your study but is not an essential requirement.


You will sit up to 3 externally assessed written papers and take a further 2 units which are compulsory.  The option to take one of these exams in Y12 is possible.

The mandatory units are both 90 hours of study and the examined units are 60 hours each.
