Dental Nursing Apprenticeship at East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire)
This Advanced Apprenticeship is about providing the essential link between dentist and patient. Dental nurses support dentists and the other people who look after our teeth – this could involve anything from sterilising instruments to reassuring a nervous patient through to booking appointments. As a dental nursing apprentice, you’ll learn how to carry out a range of duties like preparing the surgery and dental materials, sterilising and preparing instruments, taking notes during examination, and – with special training – taking and processing x-rays. Apprentices may also carry out non-clinical tasks like reception duties, meeting and reassuring patients, and patient education. You’ll need good people skills to help make patients feel at ease and communicate with colleagues. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining health and safety in the workplace. Most dental nurses work in dental surgeries, but you could also work in a hospital, the community, a specialist dental hospital, or even in the armed forces. There are many opportunities for well-qualified dental nurses to progress within the dental sector in dental therapy, hygiene, oral health promotion or dental practice management. You could even move on to related healthcare roles in nursing or radiography.
All potential Apprentices will benefit from average to good GCSE grades, D, C, B & A. Support is given to all future apprentices who have not got the required grades of maths and English for the framework. The functional skills delivery is both group delivery and one to one depending on the level of support required. The technical elements of this qualification will require the apprentice to have a good educational background with good grades in GSCE.
