Biology AS at King David High School

Course description

A Level Biology is essential if you wish to study Biology at university. It is also a valuable subject to take if you are considering any of the following courses in Higher Education. Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Science, Environmental Sciences, Dentistry, Forensic Science, Psychology and Pharmacy.

In undertaking the course, you will develop:
* An enthusiasm for Biology
* Practical skills alongside understanding of concepts and principles
* An appropriate and relevant foundation of knowledge and skills for the study of Biology in Higher Education

Course content

Topics covered include: Biological molecules, cells, organisms exchange substances with their environment, genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms.

Entry requirements

GCSE Biology (C) * or

GCSE Core Science and GCSE Additional Science (C)*

GCSE English Language (C) and GCSE Maths (C)

*Please consider when making your choice that statistical analysis of results show that students with Grades B find the course much more accessible.

Assessment

Two papers are taken at the end of year 12.

Paper 1:

Written exam: 1 hour 30 minutes

70 marks

50% of AS

Paper 2:

Written exam: 1 hour 30 minutes

60 marks

50% of AS
