History at The Brunts Academy

Course description

The course uses up to date assessment methods which have proved popular with students and universities. The emphasis is on the ability to produce historical reasoning rather than learn large areas of context.

The course follows the benefits of SHP History GCSE quite closely with a development study; "The impact of war on British government and society." Together with a Depth Study on the Russian Revolutions of the early 20th century. Year 13 has a coursework option around the key issue of historical significance and a synoptic unit on interpretations.

The lessons include a variety of activities including group work, independent research, essay writing and group presentations. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their own learning through self and peer-assessment.

Entry requirements

Students who did well in History GCSE would find the course a natural follow on to their previous studies, however other students who wish to be presented with an academic challenge around fascinating subject matter would also thrive.

Students would be expected to have a grade B at GCSE History and/or English.
