Caring for Children (Level 1) at New College Swindon

Course description

CACHE courses are nationally-accredited qualifications which will give you a good foundation of knowledge in child care.

Human growth & development

Musical activities for children

Science activities for young children

Respecting and valuing children

Healthy eating for families

Confidence building in young children

Listening and talking with a young child

Finding out about Forest Schools

Preparing for your next steps

You will also do some units in practical English and practical Maths, and may have the chance to gain other qualifications, whilst you are on the course.

There are no practical placements included with this course.

Entry requirements

You must have a strong interest in working with children.

You need to be keen to learn, prepared to work hard, and well organised.

For the Award and the Certificate, we prefer that you have some GCSE passes, though there are no formal GCSE requirements.  Each applicant will be considered on their merits.

You must be at least 14 years of age.


Your progress will be assessed through written assignment work.

You must gain at least 10 credits from the units listed above, to get the Award, and 26 credits to gain the Certificate. 

Future opportunities

This is a one-year, full time course which introduces you to the skills required for working with children.
