Computing at Highdown School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

This GCE is designed to develop an understanding of principles of problem solving using computers. Your studies will help you understand the range of applications of computers and the effects of their use. You will develop an understanding of systems analysis and design, methods of design, implementation, testing and documentation. AS comprises of two units of study:

Unit 1 - Problem Solving, Programming, Data Representation and Practical Exercise

Unit 2 - The Computer Components, The Stored Program Concept and The Internet A2 comprises of a further two units of study:

Unit 3 – Problem Solving, Programming, Operating Systems, Databases and Networking

Unit 4 – The Practical Project

Entry requirements

Students should have gained at least Grade B in Mathematics GCSE, as a minimum requirement.
