Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Hairdressing (Level 2) at Reflections Training Academy

Course description

A comprehensive induction introduces learners to all aspects of their training programmes and ensures they have a good understanding of both personal and study support available , followed by training days based on half day theory sessions, supported by a range of high calibre activities, and half day practical sessions which are carried out within our realistic working environment to deliver all salon services. You will also have access to other flexible learning resources, such as the City & Guilds SmartScreen.  You will be included within a range of enrichment activities such as competition work and diplomas to broaden your knowledge of the industry and help develop your creativity and confidence.

Course content

You will gain on the job training and experience at your salon placement and then off the job training every fortnight at Reflections Training Academy. All training is covered within an outstanding realistic working environment to deliver realistic services. This programme is catered to meet individual needs with our highly qualified training team. Learners will take part in both practical and interactive theory hairdressing training sessions covering the knowledge and understanding required in hairdressing as well as hands on training and practice. units include: Shampooing, conditioning, Client care, Styling, Cutting and Colouring.

Style and finish hair


Set and dress hair


Cut hair using basic technique


Colour and lighten hair


Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp


Develop and maintain effectiveness at work


Advise and consult with clients


 Minimum of 9 credits from optional units


Relax hair


Perm and neutralise hair


Plait and twist hair


Attach hair to enhance a style


Fulfil salon reception duties


Remove hair extensions


Cut Men’s hair using basic techniques


Future opportunities

Once your training programme has completed at level 2 you will have the opportunity to gain an Advanced Level Apprenticeship, building on basic techniques to more advanced hairdressing skills. You will continue through City & Guilds NVQ level 3 in hairdressing and associated training to achieve the full framework. You will receive the latest information to improve your career through exciting new techniques, incorporating and inspiring hair shows, hair extensions and photographic shoots. This will enhance your confidence and increase our employability. With this qualification you can travel and work aboard to take you to the next level.
