Course description

If you choose to study Chemistry at GCSE you will love this A-Level course.  Chemists have greatly improved the quality of life for the majority of people.  Our A-Level course is underpinned by relevant practical skills.  You also find out how Chemists are real innovators designing solutions to the problems that affect modern life.

Course content

This course explores the fundamental principles that form the basis of Chemistry including: atomic structure, the nature of chemical bonding and basic hydrocarbon chemistry.  Students will look at how Chemists control reactions to produce the best yields.


Assessment is through external examinations comprising of written papers with short and longer structured questions.  You will also undertake experimental and investigative activies throughout the course in order to develop your practical skills.

Future opportunities

Combined with other suitable subjects A-Level Chemistry can lead on to a huge range of degree courses including: Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Forensic Science, Bio-Medical Science, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Brewing.  It is a highly regarded facilitating A-Level that is also valued by a wide range of employers.
