Biology at English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College

Course description

The course aims to stimulate interest in and
enjoyment of the study of Biology. It is a
popular and challenging course which will
develop many of the skills essential for a
successful career. It encourages students to
recognise the value and responsible use of
Biology in society and to be aware of
advances in technology relevant to Biology. It
also helps to develop skills in scientific
investigation, data collection, evaluation,
deduction and how to present a logical
argument or point of view.

Unit 1: Biology and Disease
Unit 2: The Variety of Living Organisms
Unit 3: Practical and Investigative Skills
Unit 4: Populations and Environment
Unit 5: Control in Cells and in Organisms
Unit 6: Practical and Investigative Skills

Entry requirements

Prospective students should have gained at least a GCSE grade B in Biology or grade B in both Core and Additional Science. In addition it is expected that students will have achieved a GCSE grade C in Mathematics and English.
