Support Teaching and Learning in Schools Intermediate Apprenticeships - Level 2 at John Ruskin College

Course description

You will be in the classroom working with the teacher to support children’s learning. You may attend College for one day or you may have the Apprenticeship delivered in the workplace. Your assessor will visit you to observe your practice in the workplace. You will gain knowledge of Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Children’s Development and working as part of a team.

Course content

You will complete a portfolio that demonstrates your understanding and occupational competency and shows your employer what you can do. You will also be visited and assessed in the workplace.

Entry requirements

You need 4 GCSEs at grade D or above including Maths and English. You will need to be in full time employment.


You will have a dedicated Trainer/Assessor who you can contact at any time. They will visit you in the workplace at least every 8 weeks to carry out a progress review with you and your employer.

Financial information

If you are aged 16 to 18 when you start your Apprenticeship Programme, there is no charge to you or your employer as this is fully funded by the government.

If you are aged 19 or above when you start your Intermediate Apprenticeship, your employer will have to be willing to contribute as the Government will only fund part of the costs of your training. This will be discussed and agreed with your employer.

Other costs would include the purchase of text books.

Future opportunities

When you have achieved your Intermediate Apprenticeship framework you may be able to progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3).
