Art (Textiles) A-Level at Wymondham High School

Course description

This exciting and innovative course involves the creative use of Art Textiles. Students are taught Textiles skills such as printing, weaving, embroidery, appliqué, knitting and dyeing as well as constructing in fabric and contemporary materials. The Department organises regular visits to national and international venues and arranges workshops with textile and printmaking artists. The portfolio developed during the course is used to produce a body of work for Foundation and Degree level course applications. Life drawing is also on offer which gives pupils a more mature and academic approach to the subject.

Entry requirements

Wymondham High prefer students taking this course to have studied GCSE Art Textile Design/Technology Textiles (grade A*–B) and/ or Fine Art (grade A*–B) and have an imaginative interest in fabrics, fashion and surface texture.

Future opportunities

At the end of the course students will have a very strong technical grounding and organised portfolio of work, which is essential for interviews for entry into further, or higher education / undergraduate art, design, fashion and textile courses. Many students leave Wymondham High and gain places in the best Art Colleges in the UK. Career possibilities within textiles are varied, for example: fashion design, craft practitioner, teacher, milliner, costume design, theatre, textile designer, etc.
