Course description

Why should I study Travel and Tourism?

The Travel and Tourism industry is dynamic, wide ranging and fast growing, and it offers a huge variety of employment opportunities for young people.

This course aims to encourage you to develop broad skills, knowledge and understanding of the Travel and Tourism industry. You will gain practical skills and knowledge that will prepare you for further study or training in Travel and Tourism. The course combines in depth academic study of one industry with the chance to develop business skills. It is therefore a valuable A Level in its own right and also an excellent stepping stone to a career in the business world. Even if you do not want to work in the industry, studying Travel and Tourism makes an interesting addition to your portfolio of qualifications.

Course content

What will I do during the course?

You will study how the Travel and Tourism industry works and some of the issues surrounding its future development.

You will also practice business skills linked to the following sectors: customer service, marketing, personnel and research.

At A2 there is a chance to gain practical experience at Event Management.

Entry requirements

A BTEC in Business Studies or Travel and Tourism would be beneficial or a Geography GCSE at grades A* - C. Students must also have gained GCSE English at grade C or above.


How will I be assessed?

You will undertake an A Level qualification made up of two thirds coursework and one third examination.

Future opportunities

Where can it lead?

A university course linked to Travel, Tourism or Business; or jobs that require good research, analytical, customer service or management skills.
