Practical and theory aspects of removal and re-fitment of light vehicle body panels. Repairs to body panels. Motor vehicle construction and layout of major vehicle systems and components. Use of measuring instruments required in vehicle body repair. Removal and re-fitting of vehicle components and units. Health and Safety awareness in motor vehicle repair work shop. Working within groups and as an individual. Responsibility for personal actions taken.
Applicants should expect to obtain or have GCSE's at Grade D or above, in English, Mathematics, Technology and a Science. But more importantly they must want to pursue a career in the vehicle repair industry.
For learners aged 16 to 25 on an Apprenticeship programme, training costs are usually met by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA). Apprentices in work placements are paid a training allowance, at present the recommended minimum is £80 per week.
The course offers you a specialist work-based qualification to support a career in the motoring industry or to progress onto further education to study an VCQ Level 4 or an HND in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or related subjects. With further training, you could continue to develop your career in the motoring industry by progression to a workshop Supervisor or Manager, or you could go onto working within car manufacturing or car sales. The course is work based which means you can earn and learn at the same time whilst developing the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers in the motoring industry are looking for.
