A level Physics

Course content

Students will study six modules that are examined at the end of the two year course of the A Level. The modules covered in the first year of the course will allow students the opportunity to take the AS Physics examinations at the end of Year 12. Examples of topics that will be covered during the course are: Motion; Work, Energy & Power; Quantum Physics; Astrophysics & Cosmology; Electromagnetism and Medical Imaging.

Entry requirements

Grade B in triple science or Bs in core and additional science and a B in maths at GCSE or be studying maths at A level.


The A Level will be assessed at the end of Year 13. The assessment will be comprised of three examinations which will cover content delivered over the two year course. Additionally at A Level students will complete a series of practical endorsements which will be reported separately as either a Pass or Fail. The AS course will be assessed through two examinations at the end of Year 12.

Further information

Students studying Physics can go onto study Engineering, Astrophysics, Nuclear Engineering, and Physics at university or can undertake apprenticeships within the field of Engineering.
