Public Services Level 2 Vocational at Worcester Sixth Form College

Course description

This is a vocational course that focuses on the uniformed public services such as the police, armed forces and the fire service, and a range of topics such as Psychology, Sociology, K and Outdoor Education. It is useful both in terms of moving on to Higher Education or employment, with increasing opportunities existing within the public services

Course content

A variety of activities will be used to reflect the structure of the units and to enable you to get a real feel for the public services, for example: 
• Discussions
• Guest speakers
• Practical activities 
In the past a number of trips have been organised to a variety of locations, for example: 
• Aztec Water Park and Go Ape
• Expeditions to the Forest of Dean
• West Mercia Police Headquarters at Hindlip to help the police train
• Gloucester Police Riot Training
• RAF Brize Norton
• County Council Planning Department 
In addition to this there are numerous visiting speakers, demonstrations and activities provided by a range of uniformed public services, and voluntary sector organisations

Entry requirements

If a student does not have either GCSE Maths and/or English Language this must form part of their programme. Where a student has a high average GCSE score but needs to take both GCSE Maths and GCSE English Language then they will do this in combination with 2 or 3 AS levels or BTEC Certificates, or a BTEC 90-credit Diploma



The Level 2 course will have a variety of assessment activities, most of which is coursework.

Coursework includes presentations, reports, practical observations and peer assessments.

External assessment could include tests, examinations and controlled assessments.

Future opportunities

While many students progress to a career within the public service of their choice, Level 3 Public Services also provides a recognised progression route  to university.
