A Level Drama and Theatre Studies at Theale Green School

Course description

You should take Drama and Theatre Studies if you have an interest in and a passion for performance. If you wish to improve as a performer, designer, technician, director or writer then this course will appeal to you. We are passionate about the subject as an active art form and as an academically rigorous subject, and if you want to succeed you need to be too!

Depending on the unit that you are studying, Drama lessons in the Drama Studio are primarily practical. In Unit 1 you study two plays from a practical perspective and are assessed on the work you do in workshops and on the notes that you make on each play.

In Units 2 and 3 you prepare for a performance, so therefore the lessons are workshop and rehearsal based. Unit 4 is mainly taught in the classroom and helps prepare for the written element of the course. The lessons themselves are high energy, challenging and a lot of fun.

Entry requirements

If you have studied GCSE Drama, a B grade or above is required to study the A level. If you did not take Drama at GCSE, B grades in English are a minimum requirement plus some practical experience.
