Horticulture Level 2 City & Guilds Diploma at Wigan & Leigh College

Course description

Horticulture is a fast growing industry.  The course is for those who wish to develop their knowledge and skills of garden maintenance, garden design, plant propogation and maintenance.

Course content

Offers hands on experience plus the knowledge and skills involved in horticulture.  You will study a variety of horticulture skills, including maintaining plants, designing and setting plants and flowers from a plan, propagating, cultivating fruit and vegetables. Plant identification and retailing in the land-based sector. All students will participate in work experience as part of their programme of study.

Entry requirements


A minimum of 5 A*-D/ 9-3 GCSE subjects or equivalent including maths or English


Continuous practical and written assessment.

Further information

This course requires keen enthusiasm and dedicated study. All students will be required to wear steel toe cap boots and buy a kit.

    • Our Parson's Walk Centre houses a wide range of vocational courses and provides a unique and exciting atmosphere.

      The Centre features the award winning Wheel restaurant, together with other outstanding facilities that provide hands on work experience including the Image Centre, Florist Shop and Travel Shop.

      In addition, our classrooms offer a comfortable and professional working environment which is exemplified by our £20,000 state-of-the-art Apple Mac suite.

      This Centre also houses the College's largest Learning Resource Centre to provide help and support to all students in the use of the library and IT facilities. Our dedicated team of staff are on hand to provide assistance with electronic books and databases, information skills and one-to-one sessions. Laptops, iPads and Samsung tablets are just a selection of the range of facilities available.

      This Centre is completed with our Employment Services team who are here to offer you a personal information, advice and guidance session to identify areas of development and agree goals to set you on your path to gaining employment.
