GCE Design and Technology Product Design 3-D AS OCR at Longdean School
If you choose Product Design (3-D Design) for AS would: • Be encouraged as candidates to take a broad view of design and technology. • Develop your capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. Design and Technology makes a unique contribution to the development of young people by preparing them to participate in, think about and to intervene creatively to improve the quality of tomorrow's rapidly changing technologies. AQA's new GCE specification in Product Design (3-D Design) provides candidates with exciting opportunities to develop their capabilities through: combining their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding, creating quality outcomes and becoming informed users of products. The content of both AS and A2 is divided into three sections: • Materials and Components • Design and Market Influences • Processes and Manufacture Candidates will be expected to know all three areas for both examinations. For coursework, candidates may choose to submit a single project, two smaller projects or, alternatively, a portfolio of evidence which collectively addresses all of the assessment objectives.
GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above and grade B in any Technology subject (Electronics, Food, Graphics, Resistant Materials, Textiles, etc.)
You will follow this course with two or three other AS levels or an Advanced Diploma and, additionally, the compulsory core such as PSHE, RE, PE/Games. You can carry on to A2 Product Design.
