Health, Fitness and Exercise Instruction - Level 2 Diploma at Vision West Nottinghamshire College

Course description

Motivate, instruct and inspire as gym instructor.  Learn about using free weights, CV equipment and resistance machines to plan and deliver safe and effective one-to-one and group gym sessions.

As part of the programme of study, you will study a range of units including anatomy and physiology covering the heart and circulatory system, sutrcture and function of the skeleton, musculoskeletal, postural and core stability, the nervous and energy systems and their relation to exercise. How to maintain health, safety and welare in a variety of fitness environments, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.

As part of the course you will be expected to complete a minimum of 40 hours work placement for 'on the job' training and assessment. 

English and maths are a mandatory part of the course and you will be required to study these at the appropriate level, which will be determined by your previous achievements in these subjects. These qualifications are designed to enhance your employment opportunities and support you to progress.

Course content

As part of the programme of study, you will study a range of units including anatomy and physiology covering the heart and circulatory system, structure and function of the skeleton, musculoskeletal, postural and core stability, the nervous and energy systems and their relation to exercise. How to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.

Employment law, industry specific legislation and procedures that apply to their jobs.

You will also be required to complete volunteering opportunities and work experience.

Entry requirements

  • Four GCSEs with at least 3 points (grade D) including English and maths.

You will need to attend an interview with the tutor before being accepted on to the course. You may also need to supply at least one written reference from a teacher or employer (in some cases two) and/or your current school or college report.

Mature students (those aged 21 or over) who do not have the qualifications required for entry may still be eligible, subject to an interview. Relevant experience, a strong portfolio of work and a commitment to the subject you wish to study may be acceptable for certain courses.
