Product Design (Resistant Material) at The Sixth Form College Colchester
The course is comprised of a three part coursework portfolio which covers Product Investigation, Product Design and Product Manufacture in three discreet areas. The portfolio is intended to develop the student's skills in examining product performance, materials and components, product manufacture, design and quality issues. There is also a written exam on the knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
In the second year there is the opportunity for the students to solve a problem of their own choice and manufature a working prototype.
The course is particularly suited to those intending to study or work in Engineering, Product Design or Industrial Design.
Entry level requirements are GCSE grade B (or 5) or above in Mathematics and Physics (or two sciences), as well as a grade C (or 4) or above in English or English Language. If Resistant Materials or CDT has been taken at GCSE, a minimum grade B must have been attained. The course can be taken with Graphical Communications.
