Course description

Aims of the programme: Training an apprentice is a great way to mould individuals into the perfect employee for your business. Whether training a new or existing member of staff, you have the ability to shape the development of an apprentice so that they understand the unique requirements of your business. Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an apprentice's training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off-the-job training within college by day release. The IT Practitioner route provides the skills, knowledge and competence required to become an IT, Software, Web or Telecoms Professional in a wide range of job roles such as: IT Technical Support Software Developer Telecoms Engineer Web Developer

Apprenticeship Framework & Pathway FR03548 – The Tech Partnership Competence: C2 – L3 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT, WEB & Telecoms Professionals Knowledge: K4 – BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in IT Areas to be covered: Level 3 - NVQ Competence Units Mandatory Units: Health and Safety in ICT Personal and professional effectiveness Optional Units include: Remote Support for Products and Services Providing Technical Advice and Guidance Working with ICT Hardware and Equipment Software development Website Production Creating a Procedural Program

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this framework, however some employers require good (A-C) GCSE passes in English and Maths. The selection process includes an Initial Assessment and an interview during which suitability and ability to work as part of a team is determined. Applicants preferably should have attained GCSE C grade or equivalent qualifications in English, Maths and ICT. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."

Assessment

The NVQ is assessed through work-based evidence compiled as a portfolio. The Technical Certificate is assessed through criteria based assignments Functional Skills are assessed using paper-based and on-line tests. Qualification to be awarded on successful completion. At the end of the programme apprentices will have achieved the NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT, WEB & Telecom Professionals, the Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in IT and Functional Skills L2 Certificates in English, Maths & ICT.

Future opportunities

On completion of the Apprenticeship at level 3 with support and opportunities in the workplace, apprentices can progress onto: Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in IT Further or Higher Education to undertake business related or other qualifications, including Foundation Degrees in Computing
