Turkish AS/A2 Level at Alexandra Park School
Studying AS/Advanced GCE Turkish helps candidates further develop the skills of listening, reading and writing at a level beyond GCSE. You will learn about the culture of countries where Turkish is spoken and become able to communicate with people in these countries. At A2, you will learn in depth about the literature of these countries and their culture.
The Advanced Subsidiary GCE qualification has one unit and is assessed through a single two and a half-hour examination which tests listening, reading and writing.
A further unit can be taken to complete the full Advanced GCE qualification. This unit is assessed through a single two and three-quarter-hour paper also testing listening, reading, writing as well as your knowledge of Turkishculture or literature.
Students should have at least grade C or above at GCSE Turkish and ideally, should be native speakers.
Almost any chosen career path will be enhanced by further study of a foreign language. Examples include accounting, engineering, law, business and management, aviation, the civil service and the arts. It will vastly improve your prospects in the international community in which we live.
There are some jobs and industries that may require you to have a good knowledge of a foreign language. These include: Travel and tourism; translating and interpreting; teaching; working in international organisations; international journalism.
Knowledge of a community language will also open doors to opportunities to work within the local community.
