English Language and LiteratureAS/A Level at Colne Community School

Course description

Words count - They have the power to persuade, to inform, to influence or to entertain us. Used in the wrong way, they persuade people to drive into an airport or get on an underground train and blow themselves up. Used in the right way, they have the power to change the world and set people free.

Studying English allows us to explore how language is used and the way it influences us and the society we live in. English Language and Literature This enables you to develop exactly those skills, thus helping you grow as a writer and an analyst. You analyse how writers and speakers manipulate language to achieve their desired impact on the reader or listener.

It offers students the opportunity to produce your own creative writing and, if you enjoy exploring the techniques a writer uses, to engage in in-depth analysis of a wide variety of text types. If that’s you, then the English Language and Literature is the course for you. If, on the other hand, you love reading and analysing texts in depth then the English Literature is the course to take.
