Sport & Fitness BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at Kingston Maurward College

Course description

This in-depth two year programme will develop your coaching and instructing skills whilst giving you a sound and concise knowledge of sport and exercise science.

Offering the ideal mix between practical and academic learning, it will give you the opportunity to develop your skills and investigate a wide range of subjects including science and physiology, nutrition, sports injuries and the lifestyle of the athlete.

This course links closely with the sports and fitness industries to help advise and prepare you for your first steps into your chosen career.

Course content

During the first year of this course you will complete the units for the Level 3 - 90 Credit Diploma in Sport and Fitness.

Year 2 units include:

  • Current issues in sport
  • Practical sport
  • Sports coaching
  • Sports development
  • Instructing physical activity
  • Exercise for specific groups
  • Rules, regulations & officiating
  • Organising sports events
  • Sports legacy development

Plus:

  • Entry in the British colleges' football league as well as a wide range of fitness opportunities
  • Daily football coaching and developmental fitness training
  • Functional skills/English and maths GCSE
  • First aid qualification

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade A*-C, including English and maths OR Level 2 Diploma/Level 2 Diploma at Merit level plus functional skills at Level 2 You will need enthusiasm and a keen interest in sport You will be required to complete a work placement.

Financial information

Courses leading to a qualification are FREE for British citizens, aged under 19 years on 31 August in the academic year you start your course.* However, there may be some additional costs for clothing/kit and trips depending on your course.  You can apply to the Bursary Fund for extra help towards the cost of transport, food, equipment or childcare.

Materials required:

A full kit list will be provided before the start of the course. Suitable outdoor clothing - the clothing must be suitable for environment, climate and time of year. Appropriate footwear. KMC polo shirt.
