Retail Apprenticeship Level 2 and 3 at Preston's College

Course description

Then an Apprenticeship in Retail is ideal for you. Apprenticeships allow you to earn a wage while you gain your qualifications. The UK’s retail sector is vibrant and offers many opportunities for early career progression. It covers independent shops to national chains and large superstores. As an Apprentice you could be assisting customers on the sales floor in a shop on the high street, handling their purchases or working in a specialist department becoming a product expert.

Course content

You will cover a number of topics designed to develop your awareness and understanding of how Retailers operate and the influences on them including:

– Health & Safety
– Storing & Ordering Stock
– Preparing Products for Sale
– Merchandising & Displaying Products
– Customer Service
– Safe Moving & Handling of Goods

At the beginning of your course, you will also complete functional skills in English and Maths to Level 2.

Entry requirements

All Apprenticeships require an initial assessment, interview and employment in the industry. At Level 2 you’ll need four GCSEs at grade D or above including English and maths. At level 3 you will need a Level 2 qualification in the subject or 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English and maths at grade C or above with at least a D in the remaining subject.

Future opportunities

You can progress to the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Retail Operations, Sales Professional or Management. Alternatively you could seek employment in a wide range of roles with any retailer such as customer service advisor, cashier, shop floor assistant and store room operative.
