Music BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Queen Mary's College

Course description

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music (equivalent to 3 A Levels) is a practical and academic music course that requires a 2 year commitment from students. It is a very intensive course for practical musicians. You should be skilled in playing at least one instrument and you need to have a very keen interest in popular music. The course gives you the opportunity to study one other course alongside. You will study a broad range of music skills and techniques and explore the work of a range of contemporary music practitioners. Students will learn by completing projects based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands that would be faced by a professional musician. You will develop your skills as a musician and take part in live performance and improvisation sessions. You will also learn how to use MIDI technology, how to record live music, and how to compose original music and arrangements. You will study some music theory and be introduced to important aspects of the music business.
