Course description

Physical education develops students’ competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives, both in and out of school. A high-quality physical education curriculum enables all students to enjoy and succeed in many kinds of physical activity. They develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully

Course content

This BTEC Level 3 course is equivalent to two Alevel’s. Students will study the principles of anatomy and physiology, the physiology of fitness, sports injuries, sports coaching, assess risk in sport, fitness training and programming, practical team sports and sports nutrition. Additional units will also be studied. All students on this course complete the level 2 sports leaders’ award.

Future opportunities

This course is designed to equip individuals with knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for success in current and future employment in the sport and recreation industries, or for entry to a higher national or undergraduate degree programme in PE, sports science or sports coaching.

Additionally, as a department we run leadership courses. In the Sixth Form we run a Level 2 Award Sports Leaders UK qualification that will help develop leadership skills vital in all areas of life, and offers a good foundation to progress to other Sports Leaders UK qualifications, opening up the opportunity to then progress into Physiotherapy, PE Teaching, Leisure Management, Sports Development and Coaching.
