Construction Skills Level 1 Extended Certificate at Lakes College West Cumbria

Course description

The Level 1 Extended Diploma in Construction Skills offers an introduction and an understanding of the construction industry. The course is suitable for anyone who is thinking about a career in construction and would like to try their hand at a number of different trades. It is a practical course that will equip students with the basic skills in bricklaying, joinery, painting and decorating and plumbing. Learners will have the opportunity to gain eight weeks of experience within each area during the year-long course in our state-of-the-art Construction Skills Centre. Maths and English will be at the core of your studies, both of which are essential if you wish to pursue a career in the industry.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs Grade E-G and/or demonstrate an interest in the subject. All places are subject to interview. Applicants subject to induction/probationary period.

Financial information

Free to all 16-18 and 19-23 year olds where needed as a stepping stone to progress to a Full Level 2. Also free to learners who are in receipt of JSA (Job Seekers Allowance) ESA ((Employment Support Allowance, (work related activity)) or Universal Credit (mandated). Where fees are payable you can set up a payment plan that best suits your needs

Future opportunities

This course will prepare you for full-time study within a trade of your choice. Dependent on your level of skills and knowledge, you may wish to progress onto the Level 1 or Level 2 in Brickwork, Joinery, Painting and Decorating or Plumbing
