Business BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Reading College

Course description

The course has been designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of the business sector. It's an integrated programme that introduces aspects of business development and finance and may have work experience incorporated. All assessment is by coursework and your tutor will give you regular feedback and support to help you achieve the best results. You will study and gain qualifications in English and maths - the skills that are essential to progress in a business environment, either to the next level of study or in employment. This will also help you to complete your assessed course work. In addition the course includes a strong focus on developing your ICT skills.

Course content

This course develops technical and employability skills such as making presentations, working in groups and working individually. The core subjects are business purposes, business organisations, financial forecasting for business and people in organisations. Other key areas covered are personal finance, interpersonal skills and customer service. You will develop research skills, become a more independent learner and gain knowledge and understanding which will enable you to meet all kinds of challenges in your future career. You will start to take a case study approach to studying organisations.

The way the course is assessed means that you receive feedback on your progress throughout the course as you provide evidence of your achievement. This evidence is generated through a range of activities including assignment and project work, case studies, role play and presentations. Essential textbooks are available in the library but we advise you to purchase your own copy in order to get the most from your studies.

Students have access to well-equipped IT suites and workshop facilities. You will have group and one-to-one tutorials, support to help you set and achieve individual targets and access to Careers Advisers to enable you to move on to your next step. There are enrichment activities arranged for students on this course to enable you to extend your learning beyond the classroom. These may include external trips, participation in enterprise activities as well as group and team work activities.
