Travel and Tourism -Level 1 or 2 First Award in Travel & Tourism (for students aged 14-16) at Wakefield College

Course description

This qualification aims to inspire and enthuse learners to consider a career in the travel and tourism sector. It provides learners with the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and develop skills in, the travel and tourism sector.

It also aims to support progression to a more specialised level 3 vocational or academic tourismcourse or an apprenticeship and give learners the potential opportunity, in due course, to enter employment within a wide range of junior job roles across the travel and tourism sector, for exampleposts in travel agencies, visitor attractions and the tourist information centre.

Course content

What you will study

The core units are:
Unit 1: The UK Travel and Tourism Sector – this unit covers the main types of tourism in the UK, the contribution that travel and tourism makes to the UKeconomy and the different component industries that make up the UK travel
and tourism sector.
Unit 2: UK Travel and Tourism Destinations – this unit covers what the different types of UK destinations have to offer, as well as locating tourist UK destinations and routes.

Additional units include:
Unit 3: The Development of Travel and Tourism in the UK
Unit 4: International Travel and Tourism Destinations
Unit 5: Factors Affecting Worldwide Travel and Tourism
Unit 6: The Travel and Tourism Customer Experience

How you will learn

You will learn through formal class work, group and individual activities and where applicable, visits to various Travel and Tourism related settings.

Entry requirements

Predicted GCSE grades 3-9 in 4 subjects
AND
Minimum Entry Level 3 in English and Maths or equivalent
AND
A genuine interest in the subject/profession
AND
A good reference from Head of Year 9 or Headteacher
AND
Successful interview/trial
 

Assessment

Learners will be assessed through internally graded Assessment Tasks and one externally graded multiple choice paper.

Future opportunities

Further Study
