Business Studies BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate / Diploma at North Liverpool Academy
Business Studies at the North Liverpool Academy will develop knowledge and understanding of the subject area but also key employment skills. Exposure to real life situations and employers is a key element of this course. Presentation skills and interview skills are some of the areas you will master during the course preparing students for university of work.
All students will study the same three core units of:
Exploring Business – This offers the opportunity to study the purposes of different businesses, their structure, the effect of the external environment, and how they need to be dynamic and innovative to survive. This is assessed internally.
Developing a Marketing Campaign – Students are given the opportunity to gain skills relating to and an understanding of how a marketing campaign is developed. This is externally assessed.
Personal and Business Finance – Students will learn the purpose and importance of personal and business finance. They will develop the skills and knowledge needed to understand, analyse and prepare financial information. This unit is assessed by an external written exam.
Additionally, those students taking the Diploma will also study the following core units:
Managing an Event – Students will work will work as part of a small group to plan, co-ordinate and manage a business or social enterprise event and evaluate the skills gained. This is internally assessed.
International Business – Students will study how UK businesses develop strategies to trade globally. Learners will also consider the factors that influence the implementation of these strategies. This is internally assessed.
Principles of Management – This unit enables learners to understand how the role of management and leadership in the workplace contributes towards business success. This is an externally assessed unit.
For students studying the Certificate there is one additional unit and for the Diploma a further three to be completed. All further units of study are all optional units and these are selected by based on student’s interests when starting the course.
Grade C or above in GCSE Maths and English.
The course is assessed using the Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria. All Pass criteria must be achieved in order to move onto Merit tasks and all Merit criteria must be achieved to move onto Distinction tasks.
The Business Studies courses allow progression to a wide range of university business degrees and many future careers including accounting, banking, personnel, marketing, sales or retail management.
