Geography A Level at Stationers Crown Woods Academy

Course description

Interested in the world around you, how we shape our environment and how the environment affects us. From tsunamis to global warming or the rise of the economic superpowers, you want to broaden your horizons and develop a knowledge and understanding of current issues from the local to the global scale.

Course content

An exciting course that questions the processes that shape our human and physical environment. We offer a current and engaging curriculum which is 100% exam based including:
Unit 1 (60% AS) The World at Risk: Hazards, Climate change, Globalisation, Urbanisation.
Unit 2 (40%AS) Geographical Techniques: Investigating Rebranding Places and Crowded Coasts which is based on a residential field study.
Unit 3 (60% A2) Contested Planet: Management of the world’s resources and bridging the development gap.
Unit 4 (40% A2) Geographical Research: Writing an extended report writing on Tectonic hazards.
Fieldwork is integral to studying the subject at both AS and A2 and attendance is compulsory. Visits are also arrange to the Royal Geographical Society to support learning and students are expected to attend these.

Entry requirements

Geography GCSE grade B, English Language grade C and an interest in current affairs and topical issues.

Future opportunities

Geography prepares you well for the world of work. Geographers, with their skills of analysis are highly employable leaving you with a variety of options post 18. You may become a Conservationist, Environmental Consultant, Marketing Manager, Project Manager, GIS Specialist, Chartered Surveyor, Disaster Analyst, Publisher, Journalist, Business Analyst, Charity Coordinator, Retailer, Weather Expert…the list is endless!
