Art & Design A Level at Alsop High School

Course description

The course is very intensive and demands a high level of commitment from students. Students are expected to gather their own resource material and develop their ideas and themes in a personal, informed and meaningful manner.

The ability to handle materials, techniques and processes effectively and expressing ideas that link their intentions to outcomes is important. At the end of the course students should have compiled a portfolio of work to present at future further education interviews.

Course content

Students who have developed a love of Art through the GCSE might wish to select Art as an A Level option. The A Level coursework is similar in format to Art GCSE course work but with a far greater emphasis on independent work.

Future opportunities

An AS/A2 qualification helps students gain access to a range of university and college placements regardless of the subjects intended to be studied. However employment opportunities in the art world are ever increasing and a wide range of careers including; teaching, fashion & design, theatre, TV and film as well as freelance and forensic photography are just some of the opportunities available.
