Course description

Health and Social Care BTEC is a vocational qualification, students apply their learning to a work based environment. This course includes developing communication skills, understanding equality and diversity in the work place, understanding health safety and security in a health and social care environments, as well as units covering; development through the life stages, anatomy and physiology and sociological and psychological perspectives in health and social care.

Assessment

For Extended Certificate students there are two external written examinations and one controlled assessment. For Diploma students there are 3 external written examinations and one controlled assessment task. For Extended Diploma students there are four written examinations and one controlled assessment. The students will also be required to produce a portfolio of evidence to support their progression throughout the course. This work is internally assessed in the first instance with external moderation carried out on a sample of student work. Assessment is continuous throughout the course.

Future opportunities

The qualifications provide career development opportunities through work experience and progression opportunities to higher education, degree and professional development programmes within the same or related areas of study, within universities and other institutions.

On successful completion of a BTEC level 3 qualification, a learner can progress to or within employment and/or continue their study in health and social care, or a related vocational area.
