Children’s Play, Learning & Development Level 3 at Sir John Gleed School

Course description

This qualification will give underpinning knowledge of child development and related theories of child development, enabling learners to:

  • Gain a broad understanding and knowledge of the early years
  • Develop essential skills such as observation, assessment skills and reflective practices skills prized by employers and HE institutions

To gain full and relevant occupational competence learners will also need to achieve the Edexcel Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce. This will be achieved by completion of 800 hours of work placement completed over the two years in a number of different childcare settings. All students will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Bureau Check to be able to attend their work placements.

Course content:

There are 11 core units, 3 mandatory specialist units and a choice from 19 options specialist units that provide for a combined total of 1080 guided learning hours, over 2 years.

At least 5 GCSE’s at grade A* - C, preferably Including English; Level 2 Childcare, if studied, must be at grade B if GCSE, or Distinction, if BTEC

To work

With the international recognition of BTEC courses such as this, you can progress straight into employment. If successful there are a variety of potential careers that you can explore, all of which will benefit from your studies, for example: children's nurse or play therapist

To study

On completion of the course a learner may decide to continue their study at a higher level at University. They also have the option of continuing study with another qualification eg, apprenticeships
