Travel and Tourism Level 3 at Sheffield College

Course description

This is a two year full time course.

About the course

This course is suitable for students wishing to have a career in travel and tourism. It is both practical and theoretical and includes a residential trip and integrated educational visits.

Ideally you will have an interest in all aspects of the industry.  During the course you will learn about the business of travel and tourism, the UK as a destination as well as customer service in travel and tourism. You will learn about tour operations, holiday representatives, events management, entertainments for holidaymakers and sustainable tourism.

Although much of the course is classroom-based we maximise opportunities to learn outside the classroom whenever possible. You are expected to take part in compulsory trips and visits including a one week overseas residential to investigate the impacts of tourism on a destination. Day visits take place to popular UK destinations. Compulsory trips and visits will cost approximately £200 in Year 1 and £400 in Year 2. For those in hardship help is available from the college Learner Support Fund.

You will be expected to work independently to produce coursework such as assignments, written reports and presentations to set deadlines.

During the course you gain practical experiences such as staging entertainment for holidaymakers, overseas visits and attractions visits. The college has excellent links to local and national tourism organisations that are used for practical trips for research and case study.

You will be expected to study GCSE or functional skills in maths and English if necessary.
