Horse Management - Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma (Edexcel) at HARTPURY COLLEGE

Course description

This course gives you the opportunity to gain a good grounding in key aspects of horse management and equitation (if the riding option is chosen). The course is a mixture of theory and practical units.

Course content

Studying the theory units will ensure that you have an understanding of the importance of correct horse management and how this impacts on equine performance while the practical units will teach the skills that are required to work in an equine yard looking after a variety of horses.

You will be involved in the daily care of the horses through yard duties to develop the practical skills necessary to gain employment within the equine industry.  You will therefore need to live in Hartpury accommodation during your studies.

Hartpury’s outstanding equine facilities include:

• Four indoor arenas, including our multi-million pound Indoor Championship Arena complex with seating for 600

• Three outdoor arenas, including a world class championship arena

• Stabling for 230 horses

• Equine Veterinary and Therapy Centre, including aquafit and high speed treadmills, solarium and other therapy systems

• Cross-country courses up to FEI***

Entry requirements

 

Two GCSEs at grade C or above, one of which must be English Language with Science or Mathematics.

Additional

If the riding option is chosen, you must be able to walk, trot and canter in a safe and controlled manner. You must be riding at BHS Stage 1 standard. This will be assessed during your interview

 

Financial information

Students under 19 on 31 August 2015 are free (full time courses only). Examination fees for main qualifications are also free.

Students aged 19 to 23 may need to pay tuition fees.  We may be able to waive your fees if you are unemployed and receiving Jobseekers Allowance, studying your first full level 2 

Students aged 24 and over.  You may need to pay for your course, 

Educational visits charge: An annual £65 fee is payable for all students and covers the cost of outside visits, special speakers and a contribution to the cost of administration.
