Level 1 & 2 Community Arts Projects & Events at Leeds City College

Course description

Interested in Performance, Art, Photography, Film or Music? This is a perfect opportunity to study subjects that you love in order to boost your employability.

These courses centre around community arts projects with a practical focus. This includes running your own projects with guidance from industry experts.

These are 1 year courses with each class having a mixture of Level 1 and 2 learners.

You may have to undertake Maths and English if you don't have the required grades.

Course content

Community Arts Projects

As a group you will be involved in planning and running your own community arts projects. This will include all aspects of the projects such as:

  • Creating ideas
  • Taking part/ Performing
  • Working alongside people in the community during the projects
  • Marketing events.

Alongside learning about working in a Community Arts company, you will learn how to work with colleagues and the importance of teamwork to meet deadlines.


In addition to the skills you are gaining from working on your Community Arts projects, you will develop your employability skills, helping you to secure employment in the future. These will include looking at career progression, searching and applying for jobs, and interview skills. You will also receive advice and guidance on future study and employment routes.

Tutorial and Enrichment

You will have weekly lessons with your tutor and access to the College enrichment programme.

English and Maths

You may have to undertake Maths and English if you don't have the required grades.

Entry requirements

You will undertake a group interview for this course, do not worry this is just to ensure you are at the right level for this course.

Level 1 courses:

2 x E’s at GCSE or equivalent

An interest in developing employability and enterprise skills

Successful interview

Level 2 courses:

3 x D’s at GCSE or equivalent

A keen interest in employability and enterprise

Successful interview


This course is practical based, with some written elements used to support this. Whilst in College you will take part in group activities and discussions and will keep a portfolio of the work done in class. You will have individual discussions with your tutor to discuss your progress and how they can support you.

Future opportunities

Level 1

Upon successfully completing your course you can progress onto the Level 2 Community Arts Projects & Events course or any other level 2 course within the college. Alternatively you could seek an apprenticeship or seek employment.

Level 2

Upon successfully completing your course you may progress onto a Level 3 course within Leeds City College.

Alternatively you could seek an apprenticeship or seek employment.
