Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing & Production Arts (Technical Theatre) at West Kent College

Course description

This course is for students who wish to undertake a career in production and technical roles within the performing arts.

In year 1 you will work towards the Level 3 Diploma, if you achieve this you can progress onto year two and work towards the full Extended Diploma.

Supporting rehearsals and performances with rotating technical duties will expand your skills base and will be reinforced by a portfolio of evidence.

This course examines production techniques such as:

• Sound
• Set design and construction
• Lighting
• Stage management

Alongside your practical work, you will study the history and theory of performance creation, performing arts industry and how to set up and run a production company.

Entry requirements

You will need five GCSEs at Grades A*-C/9-4, including English and maths or a Level 2 First Diploma in a related subject at Merit or Distinction, with Grade C/4 GCSE in English and maths.

You will be required to attend an interview, and present a pre-interview task. You also need a positive recommendation or reference from your school/tutor.

Future opportunities

Progress to university or an Apprenticeship or aim to start your career in the performing arts industry, in entry level production roles.
