Sport (Top up) BTEC Level 3 Diploma at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College*

Course description

The BTEC Level 3 Diploma Sport (Top-up) course is equivalent to 2 A Levels and is designed to give learners the skills, knowledge and experience needed to improve physiologically and psychologically, whilst offering a potential route to further study at Higher Education level. Learners will study an NCFE related fitness qualification to build on their knowledge from the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in addition to their BTEC modules.

Course content

Modules covered may include current Issues, practical sport, sports psychology and other optional units to make up the 120 credits required.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have studied at GCSE level and achieved a minimum of grade 4 (grade C) in Maths, English, Science and PE and have successfully completed the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport prior to joining this course. Learners must also display (at interview and a College Taster day) an enthusiasm for the industry in addition to an interest in sport and/or coaching and a keen motivation to learn.


Learners will be charged a materials fee, which will be used to purchase resources for the learners to use on the course, to facilitate educational study visits and to support the learning taking place.

Future opportunities

Those who do not enter the Higher Education route could progress into career roles, such as leisure assistant, assistant sports coach, gym instructor, or could become involved in the administration of sport and leisure.
