Course description

Higher Apprenticeship 

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care and Children & Young Peoples Services

Length of the course - 18 Months Approximately

During the Apprenticeship, you will cover areas such as:

  • Personal development

  • Safeguarding and protection
  • Person-centred approaches
  • Health and safety
  • Handling information 

Who is it for?

Working in care makes a positive difference to the lives of those you work with, the settings and job roles vary.

Care workers can be employed in a range of settings such as care homes, day centres or in an individual’s own home and could be employed to support individuals who are elderly, have physical disabilities, learning disabilities, dementia or mental health problems.

In order to start an Adult Health and Social Care Apprenticeship, you need to have a job or a placement in the industry as it is a work-based qualification.

Before you can begin working you will need enhanced background checks by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) – formerly the Criminal Records Bureau.

Entry requirements

To start the Level 5 Apprenticeship you would need to be employed in a Management position within a Health & Social Care setting. 

Financial information

Aged 16-18
Fully funded

Aged 19-23
Fully funded for employers with less than 1000 employees. For employers with 1000+ employees, please contact us for further details.

Aged 24 and over
Total People require employers to make a contribution towards the cost for all learners aged 24 years and over, embarking on an Apprenticeship.

Future opportunities

Once you have completed your Apprenticeship there are lots of progression opportunities. You may decide to stay within your setting and seek promotion to a senior or team leader position or seek employment in other settings to gain a wider breadth of experience, for example as a health care assistant in a hospital.You may decide that you want to go into further education, for example, nurse training.
