Mathematics A Level at Moor Park High School and Sixth Form

Course description

The course involves six modules, three of
these are taken in Y12 leading to an AS
Level and the remaining three in Y13,
leading to your A Level. There are two
compulsory (or Core) modules in each
year, these focus on algebra.

Year 12
• Core 1 - Algebra and functions;
coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane;
differentiation; integration, the study
of graphs
• Core 2 - Algebra and functions;
sequences and series; trigonometry;
exponentials and logarithms;
further differentiation; integration
• Decision 1 - Algorithms; algorithms on
graphs; the route inspection problem;
critical path analysis; linear
programming; matchings

Year 13
• Core 3 - Algebra, higher trigonometry;
circles; numerical methods
• Core 4 - Algebra and functions;
coordinate geometry in here
dimensions; differentiation;
integration; vectors
• Mechanics 1 - Mathematical models in
mechanics; vectors in mechanics;
kinematics of a particle moving in a
straight line; dynamics of a particle
moving in a straight line or plane;
statics of a particle; moments

In each year there is a third module which
is taken. This can be selected from a
variety of options including Mechanics,
Statistics and Decision Making.

Entry requirements

You will need at least a grade B at GCSE.
