Course description

The Culinary Skills qualifications can help you become a chef or progress to a more senior chef's role. You'll gain a high standard of cookery skills and have the option to learn other workplace essentials like health and safety in a kitchen. The Culinary Skills qualifications are for anyone who works or wants to work as a chef in the catering and hospitality sector. It is ideal for learners coming straight from school who wish to seek a career in this industry. It is also ideal for those chefs in industry who would like to continue or refresh their knowledge by undertaking topics within the qualification.

Students aged 16-18 will form a study programme which will also include the VRQ Level 2 Certificate in Professional Food and Beverage Service qualification (this is available for mature students to study at an extra cost).

Depending on GCSE results the study programme could include either functional skills (Maths & English) or GCSE (Maths & English) and any underpinning knowledge required for the qualification. Students will complete an initial assessment test prior to starting the course to evaluate their eligibility onto the programme.

In this course, students cover the fundamental professional culinary skills required to become a chef in the current, dynamic industry.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements are GCSE grades F-G or above in English and Maths, or achievement of Entry 3 in the college online initial assessment tests in English and Maths. It is desirable to have a reasonable level of ICT, you will also be subject to interview. This course is suitable for 16-18 students and mature learners.
