BTEC Level 1 Foundation in Agricultural Engineering at Coleg Sir Gar

Course description

  • A strong emphasis on practical training on a wide range of agricultural machinery.
  • Essential underpinning knowledge giving the theory behind the practical tasks carried out.
  • Welding and fabrication practical and theory training.

Course content

Full time training, normally three days per week, for students with a keen interest in agricultural engineering who are either intending to join the trade or wish to progress to higher education. Training includes the repair, servicing and maintenance of a wide range of agricultural and land-based machinery.

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications required but evidence of practical ability is useful. One or two days a week at a work placement is of benefit to develop practical skills but this is not essential.


Coursework, examination and practical skills testing.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course students are able to progress to the Agricultural Technicians Level 2 and full apprenticeship training. Alternatively further education training at a higher level may be appropriate eg. Intermediate C&G Level 2 full time for 1 year.
