Physics A-Level at Lancaster Girls' Grammar School

Course description

If you are fascinated by the physical world, from the tiniest sub-atomic particles, to galaxies and black holes, then Physics is for you. Physics will make you ask lots of questions about the universe, and will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge to set about answering them. The course is very practical, and we use ICT extensively, for data-logging, modelling and research.

Course content

THE MAIN TOPICS COVERED ARE:

Particles Physics, Radiation, Waves, Mechanics and materials, Electricity, Thermal physics, Nuclear physics and Astrophysics.

Entry requirements

We do have a minimum requirement of five grade Bs or higher at GCSE. English Language (minimum Grade C) is also required. There are also entry requirements linked to most AS subjects (usually grade B or better). Admission to Year 13 is currently set at 3 grade Ds from your AS results.

Subject Specific

Grade A in either Additional Science or GCSE Physics. At least grade B in GCSE Mathematics.

Future opportunities

  • Physics and Engineering degrees, provided you have also taken A level Mathematics.
  • Degrees in other sciences, and in ~nonscience subjects.
  • Apprenticeships, especially in Engineering
