Sport Level 3 at Sir John Gleed School

Course description

This course is designed for students who wish to gain a sports qualification to further their career aspirations in the Sport and Leisure industry or prepare them for higher education in subjects such as Sports Development, Leisure Management or Teaching. In addition there will be the opportunity to study and obtain extra specialist qualifications in Sports Leadership, First Aid and National Governing Body of Sport Awards as well as gaining experience in leisure centres, schools and sports clubs locally. All students will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Bureau Check to be able to attend their work placement.

Course Content:

Mandatory (core) units:

  • Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
  • Assessing Risk in Sport
  • Training and Fitness for Sport
  • Sports Coaching
  • Sports Development
  • Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
  • Practical Team Sports

Optional units will include:

  • Leadership in Sport
  • Sport Injuries
  • Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport
  • Organising Sports Events
  • Work-based Experience in Sport

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSE’s at grade A* - C, including grade B at GCSE PE or Merit at Level 2 Sport Diploma

The BTEC Level 3 National Awards, Certificates and Diplomas in Sport provide a springboard to a university degree or Foundation Degree in an appropriate vocational discipline, to BTEC HNCs and HNDs

To work

The sport and leisure industry comprises leisure, health centres, private sector and public sector clubs. Opportunities include working with sports professionals, in fitness, sports coaching and outdoor education.
