In GCE business studies you will study the way in which business are set up and managed. It is also important to consider the economic environment in which businesses operate.
Business organisations are important to all economies because of the contribution they make to the creation of wealth and the satisfaction of human needs and wants.
You will need to look inside businesses to see how managerial behaviour affects the workforce and the levels of motivation.
A-Level business studies expects you to examine a range of issues and problems and make decisions on the best course of action for a range of different business organisations.
The philosophy that underpins A level Business Studies aims to encourage students to develop effective research skills alongside an ability to analyse issues and problems which relate to specific business scenarios.
At A2 students are expected to have a acquired a wide knowledge of the business world and be familiar with a number of real businesses.
Students are also encouraged to take part in a variety of business competitions.
There are two modules at both AS and A2. Module 1 is a bridging unit between GCSE and A level, giving students time to adjust to the more demanding requirements. Module 2 and Module 3 focus on the running of small and large businesses respectively.
In Module 4 the emphasis is on students’ own research with the exam being based on the exam board set research task and an essay designed to highlight the students’ own knowledge of businesses.
