A Level French at Great Sankey High School
A Level French offers students who have successfully studied GCSE French the chance to extend and develop their ability in the language and to broaden their experience and knowledge of France. The course builds on topic areas covered at GCSE and encourages students to communicate confidently, clearly and effectively in French using increasingly accurate, complex and varied language. Students will also be able to develop critical insights into the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of France and the Francophone world.

You will need to have a minimum of 5 A* - C grades at GCSE to study this course and at least a grade B in French at GCSE and a B in English Language GCSE. Students should have sat at least one of the listening/reading papers at higher tier.
AS- FREN1 Listening, reading and writing is worth 70% and FRE2T Speaking Test 30% of the AS Grade A2 -FREN3 Listening, reading and writing is worth 70% and FRE4T Speaking Test 30% of the A2 Grade
The ability to speak a foreign language is becoming ever more important in the workplace and is a skill highly valued by employers and an A Level in a Modern Language is a well respected and highly thought of qualification for anyone wishing to go to university. Students with A Level French may wish to continue their language studies in higher education and there are many avenues to pursue: traditional single honours degrees in French, dual honours degrees (with English, Maths, History or Spanish for example), starting a new language at university level, or embarking on one of the many degrees combining French with a range of other subjects such as Computing, Management, Law, Accountancy or Business Studies. With one of these qualifications, the whole of the European employment market is open to you. If you do not wish to continue your studies, you will already have a valuable skill appropriate to a range of professions, including the travel and tourism industry, import and export, sales and marketing, teaching and many others.
