Diploma in IT BTEC Level 2 at St Helens College

Course description

This course enables you to build a solid foundation of all of the knowledge and skills you'll need for a career in computing and IT.

You'll have a great time learning about computer systems, website development and networking, as well as how to develop computer games and programming.

Course content

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Online world
  • Technology systems
  • Digital portfolio
  • Spreadsheet development
  • Database development
  • Website development
  • Multimedia product development
  • Computational thinking
  • Computing in the workplace

Entry requirements

You will need at least one GCSE at grade C or above and three GCSEs at grade D or above.

English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career. But don't worry, if you haven't got the desired grades, we will still have a course available for you.


You will be assessed throughout the year based on a range of practical and written work.

Financial information

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2016), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation.

Future opportunities

Once you've completed this course, you can progress onto our level 3 course, which will set you up perfectly for university or employment.

You may even decide to look for an entry level position in the industry.

Students also have the opportunity to take part in the Microsoft IT Academy. This an accredited centre specialising in certified and bespoke IT training courses recognised by IT professionals and business users as the industry standard in professional certification.
