English Language GCSE Resit at Chadwell Heath Academy

Course description

The course will continue to improve your reading and writing skills. The writing responses must demonstrate that you can develop your ideas, structure your work and use appropriate styles to suit a range of written tasks. Accuracy in spelling, punctuation and grammar is important for this qualification and for the world beyond school. Speaking and Listening skills will be assessed but will not contribute to your overall grade. An integral part of this course is having the confidence to respond to texts which you have not been taught. These texts range from pre twentieth century fiction extracts to twentieth century non-fiction texts. It is vital then that you attend regularly and work to the best of your ability as your acquisition of skills is tested to the full here rather than the learning of facts by heart.

Assessment

Component 1: 19th century fiction extract marked for Reading . Imaginative writing 1 hour 45 mins. Worth 40%

Component 2: Modern non-fiction extracts marked for reading. Transactional Writing 2 hours. Worth 60%
